FAQ: Hair Regeneration – HD-PRP

How Much Area is Covered With Typical Blood Draw?

The typical 50 mL blood draw yields approximately 7 mL to 8 mL of HD-PRP. The HP-PRP typically injected into each site is 0.2 mL subdermally and the separation of injection sites is 1 cm apart.

To increase the coverage area, you may elect to have additional blood draws. These are typically provided in 50 mL increments.

How Long Does A Treatment Take?

Is Microneedling Performed As Well?

Yes, for nearly all Hair Regeneration procedures microneedling in integral with the procedure. Microneedling perform a number of functions:

  • Frequently some scarring of the scalp is associated with hair loss. Microneedling provides the ability to get into the scarred tissues enabling the delivery of medications and supplements into the dermis that promote normal tissue development that replaces scar tissues.
  • Even when scarring is not an issue, the promotion of new tissues also promotes neovascularization and therefore the greater blood flow provides your follicles the oxygen and nutrients your hair was formally being choked off from.
  • Microneedling also aids in the activation of platelets in the HD-PRP creating an enhanced outcome.

  • During the day prior to treatment it is important to well hydrate by drinking plenty of fluids. This helps in making the blood draw easier and provides for less discomfort. Drinking of fluids just prior to the procedure will has little to no effect on the hydration of your blood.
  • Be sure to arrive at the clinic with well cleaned hair. There should be zero hair care or grooming products in your hair.
  • Follow pre procedure instructions of your providing physician. If you have elected to receive comprehensive Hair Restoration Procedure services, make sure to have all your labs completed.

Your physician will provide individualized comprehensive instruction on do’s and don’ts post treatment.

Does Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) and Metabolic Balancing Improve My Hair Loss?

Yes, in the majority of cases. Hormonal and Metabolic balance plays a significant role in not only the overall health of hair but in the regeneration of it as well. Not to forget to mention our overall well being.

This is true even though you may not be losing hair, but exhibiting some of the first signs such as, but not limited to:

  • Thinning hair,
  • Brittle hair,
  • Dull and lackluster hair,
  • Graying hair (often genetic),
  • Miniaturization of hair.

Is There Any Down Time?

We generally ask patients to refrain from strenuous activities for 24 hours post procedure. Due to possibilities of fluid migration we recommend you refrain from bending your head forward for anything greater than brief periods for at least 12 hours post procedure.

We recommend taking the rest of the day off, go home and relax until the following day. After 24 hours has passed since you left our clinic you may resume normal activities.

Is The Procedure Painful?

Because we employ a number of methods to numb the treatment areas the procedure is largely pain free. You may experience a mild headache for up to 24 hours post procedure. These are generally well controlled with over the counter analgesics such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen.

How Long Before I See Results?

Results vary, are very individualized and dependent upon many factors such as, but not limited to:

  • Age, health considerations such as diabetes
  • State of hormonal and metabolic balance,
  • Social habits such as smoking and drinking,
  • Diet,
  • Following post care instructions,
  • Duration of hair loss.

The optimum period of time you may begin to see results is in two months. It is not uncommon for results to be realized as far out as six months. Women tend to see results sooner than men and are frequently more robust responses.

Adding biologics and or BHRT or metabolic support services most often significantly enhance results.

How Long Will The Treatment Last?

Results vary, are very individualized and dependent upon many factors such as, but not limited to:

  • Age, health considerations such as diabetes
  • State of hormonal and metabolic balance,
  • Social habits such as smoking and drinking,
  • Diet,
  • Following post care instructions,
  • Duration of hair loss.

Results may last from 12 to 24 months. Results for women tend to benefit longer.

Will I Need Maintenance Treatments?

We recommend a single maintenance treatment every 6 to 18 months depending on your individual factors.

How Many Treatments Might I Need?

Depending severity of your condition and other factors, we generally recommend 4 to 6 treatments at 4 to 6 weeks apart. Regeneration typically continues for up to 4 months after your last treatment.

Does Scaring Impact Hair Regeneration?

Yes. The degree of tissue scarring of your scalp can play a significant role in the success of your treatment.

Will this Treatment Help If I’m to Have or have Had a Hair Transplant?

Yes, in both cases. The more you can do to prepare your scalp for a transplant the better your outcome will be. Individuals in need of transplants most often have a significant amount of scarring. Scars have very poor vascularization and therefore the blood supply is insufficient for transplanted hair. The process of transplants can also cause some scaring.

Therefore, the better you have prepared your scalp for a transplant the more successful it will be. A good analogy is that you can’t grow a good garden without paying attention to the ground you intend to grow your garden in.

In regard to post hair transplant support, HD-PRP therapy is quite beneficial in both accelerating the healing of the transplanted sites, but prevents scar formation that inhibits oxygen and nutrients from reaching your follicles. HD-PRP will certainly enhance the outcome of your transplant and can occur as soon as 5 weeks post hair transplant.

As well, transplanted hair will typically fall out within the first couple months due to shock to them. After falling out, those which successfully survived will regrow.

Who Do You Recommend Simply Getting A Transplant?

Often there are cases where factors relate to your hair do not support Hair Regeneration. Primarily, these include significant scarring, locations where hair has not been seen for 5 or more years.

Though you may not be a candidate for Hair Regeneration, all patients are candidates for scalp regeneration and rejuvenation if you are considering a hair transplant.
