WHAT IS LIGHT THERAPY?
It has been more than a century since the first scientist recognized the healing power of light. Originally used to treat chronic pain, arthritis and other joint problems, and soft-tissue damage, research over the past 15 years has shown that blue, red, and infrared light in the form of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) has a powerful regenerative impact on the tissues of the skin as well. Light therapy has been shown to effectively re-energize aged and damaged skin by stimulating the body’s own healing capability at the cellular level. Light therapy is non-invasive, safe, and comfortable—in fact, many patients report that light therapy sessions are extremely relaxing! Light therapy does not have any negative side effects, and unlike laser treatments, it does not carry the risk of burns, thermal damage, or discoloration. It is ideal for individuals with fine lines and wrinkles, tired and saggy skin, and acne and/or acne scarring. If you are seeking a non-surgical, safe, and cost-effective way to refresh your skin and revitalize your appearance, light therapy offers a fantastic option for beautiful, healthy, rejuvenated skin!Contact Us Today!

HOW LIGHT THERAPY WORKS
Light therapy is an FDA-approved skin rejuvenation system that can be completed in the office without anesthesia or pain killers. Light therapy works by harnessing light of different wavelengths to stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself. The three different light wavelengths—red, blue, and infrared—can be used in isolation or in conjunction with each other, depending on the target problem and the desired results. At treatment time, it is important that the skin in the target area be clean, dry, and free of lotions or creams that may reflect the light away from the skin and prevent its penetration.
Blue light is absorbed by the very outermost layer of skin, and is most often used to combat acne and acne scarring. Once the blue light is absorbed by the skin, it targets acne-causing bacteria, causing the bacteria to produce intracellular singlet oxygen, which causes the bacteria to die. Red light also penetrates the skin on a superficial level, but slightly deeper than blue light: usually to a depth of about 2cm. Once absorbed, the red light wavelengths increase blood circulation, reducing skin inflammation and promoting cellular repair. Infrared light wavelengths penetrate to a much deeper level than red or blue wavelengths, and stimulate the growth of new collagen and elastin fibers at the deepest levels of the skin. Infrared light also improves the skin’s ability to absorb nutrients and expel waste at a cellular level. By energizing and promoting the body’s own natural cellular processes, light therapy will give your skin more volume and elasticity, a smooth, taut texture, and refreshed, youthful appearance!
