SCAR REVISION (ENERGY BASED TREATMENTS)
The skin is our body’s largest organ, and responsible for protecting our internal organs from damage and environmental exposure. But as a consequence of its defensive role and exposed position on the body, it is constantly subjected to harsh environmental elements and is at increased risk of sustaining injury and damage. When the skin is wounded or suffers a trauma, the body’s natural response is the production of scar tissue.
Scars are formed by the growth of fibrous tissue containing very high levels of collagen—the protein responsible for jump-starting the production of new, healthy skin cells to heal the wound. Visible scars form when the collagen levels at the wound site exceed the requirements of the damaged tissue. When the damage to the skin is extremely severe and involves extensive tissue loss, as after a severe burn, the resulting scars may be so large and thick as to restrict movement; other scars may be discolored and potentially painful, and even continue to expand long after the trauma. For these types of scars, reconstructive surgery to loosen, conceal, or blend the scar may be the best option. At the opposite end of the spectrum, scars resulting from a minor injury or previous surgery are generally small and can be easily treated with steroid-based injections or topical treatments.Contact Us Today!
For many individuals, acne scars and stretch marks are highly visible and widely spread across the face and body, and while not painful, cause significant emotional distress due to their impact on an individual’s appearance. For these and other similar types of scarring, energy-based treatments such as Laser Resurfacing and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) can present an effective, minimally-invasive solution. These treatments use light energy to target the pigment in the skin, reducing discoloration and minimizing the appearance of the scars, as well as to stimulate the production of collagen to build new, fresher cells. For wide-spread scarring, energy-based treatments are often combined with peels or abrasion treatments to remove the most damaged, outer-layer of skin.

SCAR REVISION OPTIONS
For the majority of individuals who feel that mild to moderate scarring is disfiguring their appearance and impeding their quality of life, there are two types of energy-based treatment options.
- Fusion: Our Fusion treatments target the redness surrounding the scar tissue and break down and replace scar tissue with normal tissue. The different modalities employed penetrate the skin to different depths, but are gentler than more traditional laser treatments and decrease both downtime and the risk of negative side effects. Generally, however, depending on the scar, multiple treatments are generally required, at monthly intervals, to ensure complete success.
- Laser Resurfacing: Laser resurfacing is a planing technique designed to eliminate the outermost layers of skin and stimulate the production of collagen, enabling the skin to produce new, healthy skin on the surface, minimizing the appearance of scars and other damage. While this approach will work to varying degrees with all scars, this treatment generally requires more treatments than Fusion treatments.
During your initial consultation, the staff at Gentle Touch Aesthetics and Wellness will conduct a thorough medical history and work with you to choose which option works best for you and develop an individualized treatment plan custom-tailored to meet your unique circumstances and goals.
