Chemical Peels

shutterstock_159361397Also known as “derma peeling” or “chemexfoliation”, a chemical peel is a skin rejuvenation technique that uses medical-grade compounds to remove the outer layer of skin that bears the brunt of exposure to the sun, wind, and pollutants.  Once the damaged skin is gently peeled away, fresh, undamaged skin can grow, erasing the damage done by time and exposure and giving your skin a youthful glow and refreshed appearance.  Chemical peels are ideally suited for individuals who feel their appearance is compromised by sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, scarring from acne or injury, age spots, freckles, or blemishes, and/or rough patches and textural irregularities.  A whole new you is waiting under the damaged layers of your skin; a chemical peel will bring that revitalized, youthful you to the surface!Contact Us Today!

A chemical peel involves the precise application of specifically-calibrated chemical compounds directly onto the skin.  In order to ensure effective, long-lasting results, Gentle Touch Aesthetics and Wellness Center offers only top-of-the-line skin care products for all chemical peels, and custom tailors the specific ingredients to calibrate the strength and intensity of the peel for each individual patient.  In general, chemical peels are offered in three levels of intensity:

  • Light Chemical Peel (“superficial peel”): this option is best for individuals with fine wrinkles, acne, dry skin, and/or uneven pigmentation.  Light peels use glycolic acid, alphahydroxy acids, and beta hydroxy acids to gently remove only the outermost layer of the skin.  This option does not require use of anesthetics, and patients can immediately resume their normal activities.    The mild nature of this peel means that patients can immediately resume their normal activities.  Light peels may be safely scheduled at weekly intervals for up to six weeks.
  • Medium Chemical Peel: medium peels are perfect for individuals with acne scars, uneven skin tone, and deep wrinkles.  Compounds such as TCA (trichloroacetic acid) and glycolic acid target both the outermost layer of skin and one layer of the underlying skin for a deeper rejuvenation.  An oral sedative and/or pain reliever may be required during this treatment, and some patients may experience side effects such as temporary peeling, redness, and discoloration for 5-7 days post-procedure.
  • Deep Chemical Peel:deep peels utilize a potent chemical called phenol to penetrate into the inner-most layers of skin for dramatic, long-lasting results.  This option is best for individuals with severe sun damage, deep wrinkles, prominent scars, and pre-cancerous patches.  This option may involve some advance treatments with prescription-strength Retin-A to accelerate post-treatment healing.  A local anesthetic and an oral or intraveneous sedative will be required during the treatment, and most patients will require 1-2 weeks off from work to recover.
