What is bio-identical hormone therapy?
Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is the practice of using bioidentical hormones to supplement the hormonal needs of your body, to maintain
well being, improve health and slow aging.
What are bioidentical hormones?
Bio-identical hormones are hormones with molecular structure identical to the hormones naturally produced by your body. Mass-produced hormones are not identical to the hormones your body produces naturally. Bio-identical hormones are custom-made by a compounding pharmacy for each individual patient. They are usually derived from natural plant based ingredients such as yam and soy.
What are compounding pharmacies?
Compounding pharmacies are pharmacies that create custom-made prescriptions according to the physicians’ requirements. Compounding pharmacies are used because BHRT offer personalized treatments for each individual patient. Regular pharmacies generally utilize mass-produced drug manufactures which do not meet these requirements.
Are bio-identical hormones FDA approved?
The FDA approval process is intended for mass-produced drugs made by manufacturers. The FDA does supervise and license compounding pharmacies and sets their standards. Because compounded medications are personalized for individual patients, they are not subject to the formal FDA approval process on each compounded medication filled on the orders of a licensed physician. The federal government approves the use of compounded medications for individuals who have received a prescription from a physician.
Who does BHRT benefit?
The high stresses of modern lifestyle mean that hormone production for many patients begin to decline in their mid 20’s. Tiredness, fogginess, weight changes, sleep disturbances, changes in libido and general feeling of poor health can indicate hormonal imbalance. The use of BHRT can drastically restore your energy level, mental acuity, natural beauty and sex life.
Are there restrictions for BHRT?
Women who has been in menopause for 10 years or more and did not received hormonal treatments during those 1o years will likely not benefit as much from sex hormone replacement. However BHRT focusing on other hormones can still be very beneficial in improving overall health and well being.
What hormones do you optimize?

How is bioidentical hormones administered?
Depending on the hormones being used, BHRT can be administered using oral capsules, transdermal patch, cream or ointment, injections or pellets.
Are there side effects with BHRT?
As BHRT replaces identical hormones that your body naturally produces, it is very safe. Side effects are usually due to hormonal excess, which is similar to the natural response to a hormonal imbalance. Our BHRT program monitors for side effects very closely, and it is very unlikely to have negative health consequences using BHRT.
How long do I have to be on BHRT?
Each patient is different; some patients will need BHRT for long term while others may be able to improve their health and hormonal status sufficiently to wean off BHRT.
